PARENT LETTER
The college counselors gather information about your son or daughter from a variety of sources.
All of the junior year teachers write comprehensive evaluations; we solicit information
from coaches and advisors, and we ask each student to respond to a series of questions. During
the course of the next year, we will meet formally and informally with the students and form our
own impressions about them. Your input in the early stages of our relationship with your
family would be helpful.
We invite you to write us a letter describing your son or daughter from your unique vantage
point. We fully understand that you're biased about the subject matter, but your
letter might address at least some of the following matters:
· Your child's greatest strengths
· The hurdles he or she has had to overcome
· The major factors in your child's upbringing which have had the greatest
impact on making him or her who he/she is today (parent's career, family moves,
changes in family situation, significant triumphs or tragedies that he/she has experienced, etc.)
Specific to the college search and exploration process, we are
interested in your response to some of these questions:
· What do you think we need to know about your child to understand
him or her and to guide your family through the college application process?
· What expectations do you have for your son or daughter as he
or she investigates colleges and universities?
· Are there parameters (financial, geographic, etc.) that
you feel should be included as your child develops a college list?
Be creative! Don't worry about spelling or grammar (or hyperbole, for
that matter, we're all parents too!). Our goal is to offer you the opportunity, if
you would like, to tell us more about your son or daughter using whatever format you
feel is right for you.
Please send your letter to the college advisor who will be working with your child. Or, if
you prefer, call or email him or her to share your insights (PHS email addresses
are all first initial last name @ pembrokehill.org (lgordon@pembrokehill.org, for example).
Thank you, in advance, for your input!
